BELPHEGOR To Play Special 'Jubilee' Shows Next Year

September 7, 2012

Austrian blackened death metal outfit BELPHEGOR will celebrate its 20th anniversary by playing a number of special "jubilee" shows in 2013.

Commented BELPHEGOR guitarist/vocalist Helmuth Lehner: "Twenty years full of chaos and diabolical musick. Yes...seemingly unreal!

"After fighting 10 months to get my life back, it feels amazing to be able to create the new sound collages coming to you next March!

"Next year we are planning some of our most crushing stage rituals to appease the demons worldwide. Really looking forward to these special jubilee shows in 2013. We're on fire. An honor — this horror!"

Lehner underwent "a serious and difficult" operation last October, which prevented him from handling lead vocals at the band's Extremefest appearances in July. Filling in for him was the band's former bassist, Bartholomäus "Barth" Resch, who was described by Helmuth as "our man behind the curtain since 1998."

Earlier in the year, BELPHEGOR entered Mana Recording Studios in St. Petersburg, Florida with producer Erik Rutan (HATE ETERNAL, MORBID ANGEL, CANNIBAL CORPSE) to begin laying down its as-yet-untitled new CD for a March 2013 release via Nuclear Blast Records. The recording sessions and the mixing/mastering process will be completed by mid-October.

Rutan previously stated about the upcoming CD: "I am very excited to be recording and mixing the new BELPHEGOR album at Mana. After many discussions with Helmuth and hearing some clips of new material, I know that the band is very focused and determined on making a harmoniously evil extreme masterpiece. We shall make one beast of an album that the fans have come to expect from BELPHEGOR!"
